In Peru it is very seldom that a city decides to stop urban encroachment. However, in Puerto Maldonado, the so called "Capital of Biodiversity", urbanization has been stopped to the South of the city, just 15 minutes from the main Plaza, where the Tambopata Ecotourism Corridor starts. This has been achieved by a group of families concerned about the possibility this diverse forest gets lost forever. These entrepreneurs have started to open up their houses to guests and offer simple but comfortable lodging facilities, as well as activities and programs.
Despite being close to the city, this forest is home to some of the Amazon`s most emblematic trees. It can be explored on the jugle walks offered by these initiatives, although wildlife sightings are unfrequent. But jungle walks are only one of several activities offered here. Whether you are interested in yoga, participating at an ayahuasca ceremony, do some voluntourism with threatened wildlife, visit a local farm or chill at a beach along the Tambopata River, this Corridor comes up to the expectations.
However, it is the hosts of 7 different stays located along this Ecotourism Corridor that will make a difference to your visit to the rainforest.
